The thought of trying to make play-dough made me shudder for a moment. Really? It sounds like a complete disaster. Have you seen those Pinterest fails? Yeah, that’s ME. I envisioned this sticky, terrible mess.
Guess what? It was easy and not a mess at all. Praise the Lord.
Break it down now…
1 Cup flour
1/4 Cup Salt
1 T Cream of tarter
1 T Vegetable oil
1 Cup of water
Essential oils of your choice-Approx. 20 drops
Mason jar – or other container of your choice
I chose to do “Oh, Christmas Tree Play-Dough”. How fun is that, right? So, I used Idaho Balsam Fir and Cinnamon Bark essential oils. I am planning on doing a Frosty the Snowman, a Candy Land Mint and a Gingerbread Man Play-Dough as well. Just add the oils you want the dough to smell like and the color food coloring you’d like and the steps will be the same.
Now, let me show you how it’s done.
Clump all those ingredients together in pot on stove on medium heat. Stir around a total of about 5 minutes.
Save the essential oils for later.
Because my play-dough theme is Christmas tree, clearly it will need to be green.
As you stir it starts to clump and get thicker and thicker. Continue stirring until it forms a ball in the pan. Add your essential oils.
I plopped mine on to some wax paper and started kneading it and worked it into an even ball.
There you have it. Oh, Christmas Tree essential oil scented DIY play-dough. I hope you enjoy this! I think it’s a great idea for kiddos. It’s something different and fun! Bonus, it smells good and what great benefits they receive inhaling the essential oils, right?
