The most asked questions I get in the world of natural products are always related to kiddos. Every parent wants the best for their littles and in a world of opinions about everything, it can be hard to decide what you feel is the best route for YOU. We focus on empowering women to the be boss of their own health, and of course their sweet babes. This is why I’m so excited to share with you a few quick tips, recipes, and DIY’s in our Back to School Survival Guide with Essential Oils. Take from this what you feel will help you do this life better, and do your thang, sista.

With school starting for wee ones, big kids and our amazing teachers out there, I’m thrilled to give you all some fab ideas for the school year. These ideas can be used any time, for adults and children. Oddly enough, I was first introduced to essential oils while still in college, praise Jesus. I was desperate for sleep and some way to calm my nerves! A sweet friend was kind enough to send me bottles of Valor, Peace & Calming and Lavender. I’m not sure if you have ever heard of these before, but they are GOLD in the world of Young Living. Needless to say, ← Yes, that dramatic emphasis is necessary. So let’s dive in, shall we?

First things first, I always like to explain dilution when using essential oils topically on children. Here are the recommended dilution ratios based on age:

Now that we have that covered, let’s start our day in the life of a Young Living oiler. Rise ‘N Shine, baby! Raise your hand if you’re a morning person… ok, well you can skip this part. I’m not a fan of mornings and I happen to know a lot of kids that, while they enjoy sunrise wake ups on days you don’t have to be anywhere, despise waking on the days you actually want them to. Joy and Lemon in your diffuser in the morning are two good ones to help get the day started.

Mama need extra help? I love adding a drop of peppermint to the shower floor! The steam carries the oil as it rises and helps to open me up and pry open my eyes!

EXTRA tip: Get the kids, and yourself, started with 1-2oz of our Ningxia Red juice each morning. It’s a great supplement packed full of nutrients and helps maintain healthy energy levels. Talk about FEELING GREAT! In addition to energy, how about supporting a healthy immune system?! Ningxia Red and Thieves Vitality both do just that. What a great combo to use throughout the school year to maintain health and stay ABOVE the wellness line.

How about those first day jitters? Ah! Calm yourself… and the kiddos with Valor II, Stress Away or Cedarwood! Apply to the bottoms of little feet and the inside of wrists for feelings of confidence and calm. You can also find really cute leather diffuser bracelets or necklaces to wear. This allows you to benefit from breathing in the oils all day.

My favorite blend to make for myself is what I call “Liquid Calm”. Yes, go ahead and shout hallelujah. It’s that good.
Here’s the recipe:
50 drops Lavender
35 drops Valor II
30 drops Stress Away
15 drops Patchouli
15 drops Vetiver
Drop into 15ml bottle with aroma glide top and fill the remaining part of bottle with YL V-6 carrier oil (or carrier oil of choice, like almond oil).

Now, everyone who is anyone knows homework time is just not the greatest part of the day. Take a look at these diffuser ideas to use during homework. Guys, these really are amazing. I will say, Cedarwood is also an excellent choice! There are so many studies out there you can read about the correlation to certain oils and focus/retention, if you’re in to that kind of thing. Rosemary, sage, peppermint, and eucalyptus are great choices for improving concentration. These oils are actually high in a compound called eucalyptol. Research has shown that eucalyptol can improve memory and performance on cognitive tasks… so, there’s that.

Sleep is one of the MOST requested needs people ask me about when concerning oils and supplements. Friends, there is a list a mile long of good essential oils to promote a calm state before bedtime: Cedarwood, Tranquil, Peace & Calming, Peace & Calming II, Vetiver, Lavender, Sleepyize, Sleep Essence supplement and more. It’s SO important to rest well for optimal brain function and performance the following day. I’m a firm believe that you just can’t ever get enough. A few fave ways to use oils for sleep are diffusing at bedtime or making a DIY Sweet Dreams Cream. This sleep cream… it is life. Trust me. Save this recipe. Memorize it.

Essential Oils for Sleep

I have to tell you now that this month (August 2016) Young Living is gifting Cedarwood Essential Oil to everyone who becomes a member with a Premium Starter Kit. This oil is what you’ll want on hand with the school year started. Cedarwood will be your BFF. Not even kidding. Here’s just a FEW awesome facts about it.

  • Smooth skin by adding Cedarwood to your favorite lotions and skin care products.
  • Place a few drops in your shampoo and conditioner for shinier-looking hair.
  • Pamper yourself with an at-home scalp massage. Warm a few drops between your hands and rub into your scalp for healthy-looking hair.
  • Create custom scents featuring Cedarwood on its own or as a base for your own signature scent. Try combining it with essential oils such as Tea Tree, Neroli, or Bergamot.
  • Enjoy the outdoors annoyance free with Cedarwood blended with oils such as Citronella, Rosemary, Tea Tree, Myrtle, Clove, or Lemongrass.
  • Calming for night time
  • Help focus during the day by applying to base of neck or diffusing

Next on the list of important things: Germy Kid Hand Soap. So, this stuff is bomb. Young Living actually has a premade hand soap that we are obsessed with. I once was anti all things DIY because get real, who has time… or patience for that matter? Not me. BUT, then I started realizing how easy DIY’s with oils really are and just like that I was a “DIYer”. Boom.

If you buy YL’s hand soap, you can purchase their refill as well. If you want to give the DIY recipe a go, simply use your empty soap container and the recipe below. I also add lemon essential oil to mine.

Remember that liquid calm roll on I mentioned earlier? Here are some other great rollerball essential oil blends for your (or your kids) needs.

When I first got my oils I thought, “Ehh, I probably won’t use a diffuser”.

I was WRONG. We have 5 now. I’m not ashamed.

When you place a couple of drops of oils in your diffuser, the cool mist will spray them into the air so that you can breathe them as you move about your home or office. Those tiny molecules are entering your nose and being absorbed by your bloodstream! Diffusing can be calming, uplifting, soothing and supportive, based on which essential oils you use.

My FAVORITE combo in the diffuser is Stress Away + Orange…. hello orange creamsicle. My life is complete. Diffuse that stress away from thee.

One last thing, YL has an entire line of personal care products. We’ve got a KidScents line just for the littles! Don’t worry, we’ve got the adults covered too.

What’s different about YL personal care products? They are toxin free, safe for everyone and have added benefits due to being infused with essential oils. It’s a win-win.
